Hi Pingu,
in this week my xfce4 desktop environment went crazy!
firstly my desktop became black without icons, then today.. the mouse icon switched to the Xorg default one, the big X! but only inside applications, because when outside the app's margins it was completelly transparent!I tried to solve the problem just rebooting but it has been a bad idea, because then my app's GUIs constrained to the top left and keyboard shortcuts with I pre-configured on xfce4 stopped working..
so I tried to startx instead of startxfce4 on my system's boot and something was starting to work.. her e I have reinstalled the xorg and xfce4 set of packages but nothing... I have also tried to startxfce4 after the startx, just as a test! and the xfce4-panel started successfully :) but not the rest..

during my tests.. I have tried to lunch the command xfce4-session-settingsand seeing the mouse back and a GUI not pinned to the top left corner surprised me!! so I have also tried a bunch of other things but they solved nothing..
in the time between I was having a chat with some linux guys and one of them sudgested me to clear configuration files of xfce4 so I logged in using another account I previously created and SURPRISE! everything was working fine! so the problem was definitelly with the configuration files!I checked which folders were both the home folders and found out which folder was causing all this problem so I deleted it!
after a reboot I logged in and my desktop was again there!! Up and running!!!
I missed It 4 a week and more but now.. welcome back icons!! :D
It was just a cache problem.. and the command to solve this kind of problem is:
rm -r ~/.cache/sessions
